High CPU temperature

dty90m.png

I got a AMD Phenom 9600 Q-Core
That is my current readings at pretty much idle. I have a Zalman CNPS9700 installed as the heatsink for my cpu.

What could be wrong or is this normal? If you need any other information ask. Thanks.

Max Temps (C)70

well i would say the airflow is either bad or the thermal paste isnt applied properly. Although it is a possibility the readings are not accurate.....try another program before you proceed as far as getting the temp readings.

My guess is this:
1) 71c is a false reading
2) The cooler isn't locked tightly enough
3) bad thermal past between the cpu and cooler

1 is most likely. It happens often, in most cases the temp being displayed is from another component such as the north bridge on the motherboard which can run pretty hot on some chipsets. Your pic also shows a cpu temp of 40, this is probably the real temp. To verify if it's a false reading reboot and check the temps via the bios.

See if the processor is fit correctly in the socket .

It wouldn't fit any other way.. that seems fine

In the bio it does show the same temp as CPU temp. But what I don't understand is that why the core temps are much higher than the cpu temps..

That is the temperature just 20 minutes of having the computer on pretty much idle.
