Where would you personally draw the line? I think the majority of us agree that some techniques are clearly blackhat - I'm more interested in looking at the "greyhat" techniques if you like where opinions differs on whether or not they fit within the guidelines of Google search.
It all helps- but domain age alone doesn't guarantee you a faster index rate. It depends on site history, page authority, and number of external links (if any) pointing to the root domain.
You shouldn't be doing direct Link exchanges anyway, so stop it! There's nothing natural about it, and it will get you slapped by the big G if they do a manual review - or you trigger an automated red flag from multiple LE's.
