As said there is no need to install a control panel to add a domain.
Are you running your own DNS server? I suggest you don't if you don't know what you are doing. Use your domain registers, and add the appropriate "A" entry for your IP.
Than add the vhost for whatever HTTPD software you are...
You probably have a bad config file. If you have leading spaces you can get this error.
