Launching file hosting in 2026 will make you rich?

The hardest part is probably content controlling, I have myself considered to launch a host, but how do you make sure no one sabotages your website by uploading illegal content what could get you in trouble?

Since you’re looking for a partner, be clear about who brings the users and who handles the service. Two people splitting the server bill still need a reason for uploaders to switch from their current host. That’s the part I’d want figured out before spending money.

Once this aspect is secured, focus on testing, launching and users acquisition.

$50 per day is a unit-economics target, not a definition of getting rich. Before building anything, estimate storage plus replication cost per active TB, outbound bandwidth/CDN, upload and download traffic, support and abuse workload, payment fees, and fraud losses. Then compare that with realistic revenue per 1,000 legitimate downloads or views.

A small invite-only beta is safer than launching an affiliate program immediately. Measure storage growth, egress per active file, advertiser fill rate, deletion/abuse rate, and the percentage of earnings lost to fraudulent traffic. If the model only works with aggressive pop-ups or unlicensed popular files, it is not a stable business.

You also need a clear takedown process, repeat-infringer policy, suitable jurisdiction and legal advice, and payment/advertising partners that explicitly accept file-hosting risk. If you bring in a partner, define ownership, infrastructure costs, compliance responsibility, and payout rules in writing before either person invests money.
