What you guys think about if a hacker hacked your site to teach how to better protect your site? Like if a hacker hacks your site and tells you how he did it. Im writting this because ive seen it in the past. Are those the type of hackers people would want? Ive seen a few hacked sites where it got hacked but the hacker did it to teach the site how he hacked it and what they can do to prevent it. Or would you get pissed either way?

P.S. the "hacker" does it without you knowing. And he doesnt steal files/ databases and what not. Hes there to teach not steal.. I think theres actually ppl out there that do that.

Im not sure exactly what i would do if my site was "hacked for fun". I prolly be a bit pissed but if there was a way i could beter secure my site i would definantly do it

Well if he hacked my site and didn't take the database/files I wouldn't be so mad. I would be like yea thanks for teaching me how to protect my site but don't do it again lol.

Yeah, well the chances someone hacks your site and doesn't take something out of it are slim. There are hackers who do it for fun, but they are slowly dying so yeah. As for the question, I wouldn't be mad if it solely "for fun" and nothing is damaged nor touched and it would provide great depth of information on how to further prevent your site of getting attacked.

A few of my websites a few years back got hacked. They would simply add something to the footer like "Your web page is vulnerable to an exploit. Read the .how file to find out how to fix the problem."

And when I would go into ftp then there would be something like "how you were hacked.txt" or "exploit.how" with some info on how it was done and how to solve it.

id be pissed as fuck at first, but if i had backups from pretty much right before it happened and he told me how he did it i would just be "slightly annoyed"

I wouldn't be pissed. I've done it once awhile back, and to be honest, they were grateful. So all I can say is, if there wasn't anything taken, then my reaction would be satisfied, but feel slightly noobified.

Depends. If he hacks the site without doing damage, change anything or any other bad things then I guess the hacker could be rather helpful. However these days that sort of white hat hacking is rare at best.

He wouldn't delete anything, just maybe turned off your forum with a notice like 'Your forum got exploited, check your mail for the info' or even more discreete, as adding something in the footer (altho, I would do it in big red so the owner can notice it :)))

But as Hyperz said, those kind of hackers are rare today :(

To be honest if a hacker hacked a site and didn't cause any problems (left everything how it was) then I'd thank the hacker for 'not' deleting the files. Everyone would prefer 'white hat' hackers than black hat. I know a few members who actually find out 'exploits' in sites and email the owner to notify them, there's one (maybe a few more who I don't know of lol) on this board :P

Well that's what I used to do, deface is gay, just leave him a .txt in his files on how to fix and maybe even leave a link to your site (i used to own a security site).

I once found a security hole in a site so I informed them. Rather than fixing the problem, they banned my IP and told me to screw myself.

From there, I decided to destroy their site and I proceeded to do so every time they uploaded their backup.

They just didn't want to fix their security issues.

well it just goes to show we are not all as brainy as we like to think. I would be annoyed at first i think - most people are when they are "outsmarted" - but i would be grateful for him not wrecking the site - and probably pay him to secure it to be honest.

lol I remember the old days :p when I used to try out script kiddies :p
I used to Hack for fun.. I would never do any harm to the website, instead I would just leave a index.html file saying that its Hacked by ***** and Please tighten up your security :p

But even a Hacker gets Hacked so.. I had got Hacked and Thank God ! None of my files were deleted.. only they left an .htaccess Re-direct :p

Every time I have been hacked its been a DROP TABLE job. I would be greatfull if it wasnt. Anyone who hacks backs up then drops table deserves to die in a whole, if they didnt touch anything and helped me fix the problem I would be extremely greatfull.
