In what appears to be the latest phase of a far-reaching federal crackdown on online piracy of music and movies, the Web addresses of a number of sites that facilitate illegal file-sharing were seized this week by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a division of the Department of Homeland Security.

By Friday morning, visiting the addresses of a handful of sites that either hosted unauthorized copies of films and music or allowed users to search for them elsewhere on the Internet produced a notice that said, in part: This domain name has been seized by ICE Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant issued by a United States District Court.

So what Do You Guys Think?

Got this from another site

If today you tried to log in to one of your favorite sites that allowed the downloading of pirated movies, music, music videos or sold counterfeit goods, chances are it's gone.

The Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigations and National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center have been quite busy the last couple of days.

Lots of hip hop fans were in shock when they signed on to RapGodfathers, com and OnSmash yesterday, only to find the sites had been seized by ICE.

But those seizures were just tip of the iceberg. Dozens of other domains have fallen victim in the U.S. Government's latest attempt to shut down rampant piracy and bootlegging that is costing the record industry, movie companies and clothing manufacturers billions of dollars annually.

As you would expect, lots of domain owners were caught completely off guard.

My domain has been seized without any previous complaint or notice from any court! the owner of Torrent-Finder told TorrentFreak. I firstly had DNS downtime. While I was contacting GoDaddy I noticed the DNS had changed. Godaddy had no idea what was going on and until now they do not understand the situation and they say it was totally from ICANN."

Cori W. Baqssett, a spokewoman for Ice confirmed the seizures in a statement to the New York Times.

ICE office of Homeland Security Investigations executed court-ordered seizure warrants against a number of domain names. As this is an ongoing investigation, there are no additional details available at this time," she said.

Check out the full list of seized sited below.

Wow, I saw this myself the other day when looking for a dvd box cover for my thread, thought it was some prank. 0.o

Fuck the USA and their constant need to interfere and hypocritically restrict freedom.

someone needs to make a 'warez user app' that updates your hostfile so sites work even if the domain is seized.

make it work from a site where webmasters can submit there domain & IP :D

All were hosted in the US. Everyone knows, or at least should, you don't use US hosting.

They seized domains, not servers. Offshore would fail just as hard as onshore, because ultimately, the majority of the domains outlined are under ICANN's control. Which, is onshore.

That list of websites are not warez sites. They are all sites selling different products such as clothing. Obviously these websites have been taken down due to being scam sites, not warez. If you have MYWOT installed on your browser, view some of the websites you'll see that they are infact selling goods that are not legit rather than providing warez.

whats about the torrent sites? they suspend them also (torrent-finder) !

I think you will find the owners of domains were US citizens, hence why they are able to do this.

Other larger sites under the control of ICANN, lets not forget thepiratebay.org, have yet to be taken. I believe it is because their owners are of foreign nationality.

torrent siteS ? Don't you mean SITE... there is one site in that full list that I can see from quickly scanning through them that is a warez related website - one torrent site from all the torrent sites and warez sites online is hardly breaking news.
