The program still works yes, but you can no longer download it f and use it from the website in a legal way. So now its illegal to use.limewire still works for me ?
I personally want you to stay away from limewire and similiar program as they will harm your computer with loads of virus and other shit you don't want on your PC.
The best solution is to find yourself a nice 0day tracker or w.e where all music is being released and then download single songs or full albums.
I do have a what.cd invite, and you can win the invite if you participate in the gfx competition #2. You might want to give that a try, for the fun and you will also get a new source for your music downloads.
On topic, if you absolutely have to use such programs i'd recommend frostwire.
