We could use one . There are quite a few people here that like to make scripts or apps and right now there isn't really any dedicated section for such discussions etc.

At the moment all the apps and scripts are in the Webmasters Resources. Will that section not become almost redundant and dead if this new section is added?

mr happy is kind of right, although both are two separate sections. Im sure stuff will still be posted in the webmaster resource and programming as not everything people create is for webmasters exclusive.

A section like this might get me back into programming. Haven't done anything in a while.

A side note: the gfx section was never added so I doubt this will be added.

It won't become redundant, the programming section would be used to discuss programming, get help with code, stuff like that. The webmaster resources section is only used to release scripts and applications and not to discuss programming.

Great idea Hyperz. (y)

+1, it would also be helful for people (like me) who are still learning small things.

there should be a rule that all topics in the programming section should contain the source.
wbb has that rule, and it works well.

people who need help/are giving help and are willing to provide the source or a snippet of code should post in the programming section and people who just want to share the apps or scripts they have made without sharing the source should post in the other forum.

It goes in webmaster resources usually.

I doubt a coding section would be very active but it would be useful.

I dont think it would be the most active area, but would be a great place to ask for help and give help back.

A lot of people are getting into coding or learning new languages and it would be a good place to get help because you know the people, and most people that reply will be active members, which in turn means quicker responses and the like.

Well not really, right now webmaster resources tends to get used for user made apps to because we lack a dedicated coding or development section. Furthermore webmaster resources can't be used for coding-related discussions.

See my comment above. I'm not gonna say it would be very active but it would be a very welcome addition IMO. It might also boost creativity and result in more useful stuff for non-coders. See IW and C-C (before they closed), their coding sections were pretty active and some nice stuff got made there.

Since WJ is aimed at (warez?) webmasters coding is a closely related topic.

^Tbh it doesn't because you can't talk about coding there or share code that is not specifically a webmaster recourse.

Edit:
And also coders can't help coders there. A dedicated section would make it easier for more then one coder to work on a single script/app/whatever.

I'm undecided still. While I like the idea and can see the benefits of it I'm not sure it would be busy enough to bother adding it. Right now if someone has a coding problem it goes in the Forum Software Support or the Technical Help Desk Support. If their releasing a script or app it goes in the Webmasters Resources. Your only left then with discussions which can go in Webmaster Discussions or Forum & DDL Discussions depending on what it is.
I can see it getting a bit confusing where something should be posted if this is added.

TBH I'd prefer to see a dedicated GFX area first as I believe their's more of a demand for it.
