While most of them dislike the latest offering from Microsoft, it has eventually succeeded in the market share. Its finally in the top 5 most used operating systems after Windows 7, Windows XP and Mac OSX.

Windows 8 has finally surpassed Windows Vista in usage according to a recent research report by Net Applications. Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS now has 5.1 percent of the market share while Windows Vista share has shrunk to 4.62 percent. The adoption is remarkable in face of the criticism Windows 8 received for its tiled user interface and lack of a Start button.
According to the market tracker Net Applications, Windows 7 and Windows XP still remain the most popular OS with a combined 81 percent (approx) of the market share. Windows 8 is just a little behind Apple's Mac OS which has a 6.63 percent combined market share. In May, Windows 8 had 4.27 percent market share which saw a sudden jump recently.
Overall, Microsoft remains the undisputed leader in desktop OS with Windows 7 having a 44.37 percent share and Windows XP with 37.17 percent. In June, Microsoft had more than 91 percent of the market share. Mac OS comes second with 7.2 percent share and Linux is third with 1.28 percent of the total market share.
Microsoft also tweeted that it has now over 100,000 apps in its Windows store. Microsoft has reached this number in seven months since the store's launch in October 2012.

91.26% People around the world own Windows :-= That is pretty Great.
Windows 8 got criticized as Microsoft didn't pay Reviewers i guess.

I saw people reviewing it without even using it. LOL [:P]

This was expected. Vista was a shit. And Windows 7 was the perfect product to win back annoyed customers.
The only mistake they did with Windows 8 was that they made a lot of changes and didn't provide a manual or a guide for people switching to 8 to understand the new interface. Due to this many less technology-savvy people were unable to adapt to Windows 8 which brought Microsoft a lot of negative reviews.
Hopefully with Windows 8 Blue they will be able to turn the situation around.

Though I do wish Mac OS X's share increases because I have used both, Windows 8 and Mac, and both are awesome in their own ways.

The problem is with Window builds after XP is that anyone who has a laptop won't be able to use anything but what's installed on their shit hence why Vista was leading. It was because people didn't want to upgrade, it's because they couldn't because of how bad the drivers were in terms of compatibility in the first 2 years.

Most PC users have laptops nowadays, the only ones who have towers and shit are usually tech savvy and know what their doing but even then, there's still non tech savvy people that don't have time to deal with driver bullshit.

And they forgot the 'Start' button in Win 8.

As sahil mentioned, its available now in the latest Windows 8.1.
Also, its not that tough to get back the start menu in Windows 8, i myself use it at the moment, with a sexy start menu. ;)

Yup, both have their advantages and disadvantages. And, as always, the fight between Windows and Apple fanboys will continue forever xD

What are you talking about? Drivers were never an issue ever since Windows 7 came into picture. Windows 8, obviously being a successor is far better and adaptable like Linux or any other latest Operating system.

But hey, you can't install Windows 8 on a crappy P4 PC, can you? Its simply illogical.

The issue on Windows 8 not being able to capture the market, is the sudden change of the interface and the way it works. Its completely different for users to adapt to the new interface. Adding to the pain, Windows 8 will not be used by most of the IT companies or any other MNC's for that matter, any soon. They'll just stick around with the set of licenses they have atm, instead of buying/upgrading to Windows 8 by paying yet again.

Paid reviews eh? That will not work in this era buddy, people are far more intelligent now. They will not throw away on reviews just like that. [pokerface]

What are you even saying brah, Drivers were an immense issue when Windows 7 first came out. Windows 8 was the only version that was actually migrate-friendly without any conflicts. You gotta know that I'm talking about the first year or 2, not today.

Crappy P4? You also gotta remember, companies don't update their builds that often, not because they're cheap, but because the need isn't there. Back when W7 came out, people were still running on P4s and builds were being updated to just Intel core 2 duo and Intel Centrinos along with the other shit AMD was offering.
