Are they important?

If they are wich are the best tags in a movie-download blog? movie name+release+mirrors?

Please enlighten me :)

To be honest, tags are useless. If you are using the auto-taggers then the tags become more useless as irrelevant words are tagged.

Yes that’s correct. I’ve been using wordpress since 2 years now and have made many websites with it. On all of them, I used to install the auto tagging plugin which would generate the tags automatically from the posts. But they are useless !

tags can be useful.. i use it to give my site a 2nd level structure after categories. i just dont spam these tags. each tag has atleast 40-50 posts. there are 40 tags and EACH tag has proper desc. and meta tags. so if you use it carefully, it can be a great thing..but if you choose to spam..its bad

So let's say i have my categoris as dvdrip, bd rip, cam etc...

I can make tags with the genre of the movie for example?

And what do you mean by each tag having it's own meta tag?

sorry about all the questions, i just want to figure this out well before i stop putting tags ;)

well since your site is a movie download site...categories should be types of movies like action,scifi etc...
since each movie will be uploaded in different qualities like dvdrip,bdrip, cam etc. you can use them as tags.

i use wordpress seo by yoast. by default you can enter description of each tag "post tags" and i advice you to do it aswell. this gets converted to meta description

each tag gets converted to a page.(not a wordpress page ,but a webpage)now meta tag = meta tag for that tag page.
 
I think tags are as important as the blog post it self, if you talk about a movie blog that enlists a movie to download lets suppose then i think adding up as many tags as you can think of would be nice, since your blog conten would be the same as the rest of the 100s of blogs so the only thing that's gonna make a difference is your tags, using auto tagger will ease up the whole task i think : )

i suggest you take a look at mukki... i dont know how they do it..but they have different types of tags. you might try to find out how it works plus implement it on your site...though putting mirrors as tags just loads up the server for crap
 
It depends on how you made your categories.. for example on a porn site.

your categories can be the studio names and your tags can be the video type: anal,interracial,blonde,etc..

They're important for users are they can easily find the kind of content that they want in your site.
 
Wordpress tags are very important to promote your blog posts on wordpress. Giving your post a relevant tag, lists it among other articles having the same tag. And there are a lot of readers who check their favorite tags everyday, for new and exciting articles. So, you can easily get a lot of traffic on your post through this way. I get normally 10-15 visits on my blog through tagging my articles. And it takes around 20-30 seconds to do so. So, it should be done.

And you can get a list of popular wordpress tags at wordpress.com/tags.

And for movie download blog, you can post tags such as entertainment, movies, torrents etc. (Search among other popular tags, keep them few and relevant)
