If you can consider the fact that being Open Source not many developers give their attention to improve the applications for Linux and hence things don't act as ready-made as in Windows, then Ubuntu is really something.
For me, if the native applications in either LinuxMint or Ubuntu could use all of my Processor cores and if the AMD/NVIDIA GPU drivers for Linux could produce the performance as their Windows counterparts do, I would happily move to any one of them "permanently" right now!
As for the topic, I think Windows 7 is better than XP. The other versions are not worth talking about. I never installed Vista on my machine after experiencing it on a friend's PC. I think Windows 8 is a privacy intrusion crapware with useless additions and lacking useful features from its predecessors. But those are very much my own personal view and opinion.
