After losing access to their favorite file-hosting service last week, millions of former MegaUpload users have fled to the many alternatives available. Filefactory, Depositfiles and many of the other top cyberlockers have seen an unprecedented surge in traffic in recent days, showing that people haven’t stopped sharing even though the authorities have closed one of the main players in the business.

The big question is, where do these millions of people go now?

I heard that when LimeWire was shut down, the music industry earnt much because everyone was downloading paid songs from inet via amazon, itunes etc.

People get their download links generally from forums and blogs so they'll go to whatever file hosts the forums and blogs are using. So far, there's been a wide variety of file hosts being used. It's a bit silly having a poll. People aren't just going to flock to one file host in particular, they'll be spread out over several.

Amazingly music sales on iTunes have seen a noticeable increase and that's true. A lot of people around here could do with buying a song or two after earning hundreds if not thousands illegally.

edit for the record this increase has happened AFTER a recent topic on torrentfreak claiming that warez doesn't have an affect on iTunes music sales.
