i understand that mrsandvik, but what i asked was,does google rate freely available domains like .co . cc, .co. nr, poorly as compared to .com, .net? or is it just content?

Google ranks free and subdomains, yes.

I think the thing that helps the most, and really helped in our case a lot was concentrating on a few things:

1. Quality hardware
2. Quality Service
3. This then brought us more customers through word of mouth than normal advertising.

We have existing clients refering other clients to us for free. This is awesome, lowers our advertising costs. :D

Quality hosting, etc. It does not matter when you are new to the game, IMO.

Quality, and more in that direction should be the focus of the more experienced.
A beginner can operate on free hosting, or maybe a cheap shared plan.

Are you sure? I would put direct traffic at the top.

It can be discussed.

Chances are all the only way you have direct traffic is that people found your site via search engines and now they regularly visit your website.
