Sopa lives... Jan 17, 2012

As for SOPA, it's hardly dead—as some news outlets claimed this weekend. While House Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has expressed reservations about bringing the bill to a vote without "consensus," House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) is moving ahead with plans to mark up SOPA and move it out of committee. The most controversial bit, DNS blocking of "rogue" sites, will be removed from the bill.

Please click the following link and STOP American Sensorship. I am an American and feel this is bogus the web does not need to be governed by the government. The way this is written it actually violates the first amendment of the USA. You can sign up your site to close tomorrow at this link or just show your support or take advantage of the other offers to you to stop this and only we together can do that !!!

I don't think a megathread is a good idea,I personally rather view 1 thread than rather 1 thread with a bunch of comments in between -.-

QuickSand you are complaining about "comments" members make in serious threads like these, the only member who has posted 3 times on the first page already, pure junk, is you. You are the ultimate example of your own description !

Here's my contribution to this megathread:

Wiki is blacked out ... (y)

For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia.

Wikipedia Still Set For Full Blackout Wednesday

Jimmy Wales confirms that the entire English language Wikipedia will be on blackout January 18th from midnight to midnight, Eastern Standard Time. The site's 25 million daily users will redirected to an education page with a call to action. Votes are still being taken on the exact implementation.

Despite a small victory against SOPA in the House, Wikipedia still feels the blackout is necessary due to the looming Senate vote on PROTECT IP, and as a deterrent to future attempts to revive a similar law under a new name.

House Kills SOPA

In a surprise move, Representative Eric Cantor (R-VA) announced that he will stop all action on SOPA, effectively killing the bill. This move was most likely due to the huge online protest and the White House threatening to veto the bill if it had passed. But don't celebrate yet. PIPA (the Senate's version of SOPA) is still up for consideration.
