it's more or less a question about personal preferences.
HTC and samsung have newer hardware, since they are newer than iphone5
iphone has the best display imho and is small enough to call it a phone. (very important for me. I don't want to carry a small tablet. i need a phone)
HTC and iPhone have a good chassis. (i don't like the cheap plastic of samsung)
iPhone has iOS, so only itunes.
all the others have android - so theoretical more options
all smartphones are fast enough for nearly everything. even 1080p streaming isn't a problem with either of them.
so i wouldn't get along with them. As long as the apps are working fine and video is good, why need a 4core-monster like s4, when the htc is the one that look better (or because of any other reason)
All games will work an them. Perhaps there are a few games that won't work in 2 Years. But that's technology.
i would say go to a shop and try them out.
touch the smartphones and feel them. Try out the virtual keyboard and a few other things, that may be important for you.
then decide which one are best for you.
