All of you guys may remember a time when i tossed around an idea years ago about enforcing a WHMCS rule to where a billing area has to be licensed and verified in order to sale here on WJ, Some of you may not remember.

Anyway i sit on WJ daily i don't post a lot much more how ever i do indeed read quite a bit.

Most issues i see is with web host going offline but also hosting there so called "Company site" on the same server as there clients.

To me and others thats non-sense, Not only is it stupid its just not secure. Anyone thats been in this industry as long as i have knows that its not a smart idea to host a billing portal with stored personal infos on the same server as your clients how ever people still do it and advertise as a "professional" company.

Now this post here ill use as an example:

There hosting is offline & so is there site. There being who ever runs this host surely has no common sense.

I know this rule may not be enforced im not quite sure how it would be enforced to be honest, But all i know is if a rule was to be enforced it may help crack down on fly by night operations.

In all, If there company site is offline because they host it with there clients how do these clients get support ?

Yes i completely agree with you/
Lets suppose u have a competitor and he is an asshole and ddos your main site then all the sites under your hosting will also go down
So the best thing is to host the main site on some popular shared host and only provide your server details to your clients
Note: I know this is also not proof idea as that competitor might maybe register on your hosting and might get the details then attack but its better to be a little bit protected then not protected
 
Here is my idea for the shared hosting section we can all agree that something needs to be done to weed out the host that will only be around 3 to 6 months

Host needs to be a min of 6 months old

Host can not have servers with OVH and there are 2 host I do not remember with 2

Host needs to have some type of security in place to stop hackers and spammers free cloudflare does not count

Need 50 to 200 post to post in these section

There is nothing wrong with OVH there a great data center. Right now i have three servers with there north America location

Theres really no way to enforce that, or prove it for that matter i would never share my trade secrets for security reasons.

My checklist

1. As DLow said, Main site and support system should be in an isolated environment.

2. Host should be operational for 3-month

3. Min. 30 posts should be there

4. No resellers, Webhosts reselling from other webhosts should not be allowed to sell. As there are always problems when one doesnt have root access.
 
Most of the members here run a warez sites & a host using OVH = hell no for a warez site that is why I say no OVH and 2 others

You are some what correct, But then again people using Data centers that do not allow such things should post on there thread it is not allowed, or some one should read more into the host & ask questions before they buy.

Generally a good idea, but this will also mean more work for the current administrators/moderators to check this.

And as you might have also noticed inside the hosting section @ WJ, new hosting company's arise almost every day.

Good rule, but how/who will judge/decide when someone is a reseller or not.

well yes.
BUT
there are people who are looking for servers to do nothing illegal.
i also have ordered a OVH-Server from here. Since i don't use it for s.th. illegale there's no problem.

if you choose a company which allow warez on OVH-Servers, it's likely the company won't last longt. So they automatically will be reated bad and probably won't take it above the timelimit a good hast easily reaches.

And of course, it's better to ask which datacenter (99% of France-Servers are OVH - so that's normally really easy to see)

A smart host would let there users choose which location they want if they have multiple =]

Anyone who's been around the block knows that most data-centers won't give two shits about Warez, or most things illegal (child pornography being the exception) as long as it's flying under the radar (no DMCA complaints, ect) OVH included. I've had to contact OVH support many times, and they're always helpful - as well as dealing with their servers, I find them to be pretty high quality. Especially for the price.

Also, they're not just a French data-center. They have locations in Canada, USA, and London.
