So everyone is busy doing seo for there posts and articles.
Ever thought of getting traffic from the images that you upload?

This tutorial is for those blog owners who believes in true SEO and not linking images from other sites but uploads on there own server.

Well you must have noticed that your images don't show up on the top of the searches right and traffic is less? Well, the answer is simple: you get more visitors from image search.

For example web-page that talks about planets, gets reasonable amount of visitors from those who’s searching for planets or solar system, etc. It could be a good idea to promote your products through those pictures as well. At the moment the competitions in this field is average, so being successful could be fast.

Google bots, that are indexing web-pages doesn’t see like we do. It means, that they can’t look at picture and tell there’s a little blue ball which is earth. Only people can do that. For bots you have to use optimizing techniques.

It has been a lot of talking about Google image search but it still isn’t 100% sure how it’s working. Google haven’t published their algorithm. But we can surely state:

  • The most important is pictures’ ALT (alternate text) attribute. If there’s appletree on the picture then you should add this to ALT attribute like that:

<img src=”name-and-location-of-picture.jpg” alt=”apple tree” title=”apple tree”/>
  • As you can see in example put the same keyword to the title attribute (it’s shows up when user moves cursor on top of picture).
  • Name your picture file whit the right name. If there’s a planet on the picture then name it planet.jpg
  • Use same keywords around the picture that you’re optimizing your picture for. Context is very important. For example:My dog is the best dog <img src=”planet.jpg” alt=”planet” title=”planet” />. Big planet?
  • For photos the jpg format is better than gif. Google thinks by default that photos are in jpg and design elements in gif format.
  • Web-page title (<title> tag) counts. Your page title has impact on your picture. If you google ,,planet some results my come up just because they have ,,planet in title tag.
  • Put your pictures at the beginning of the web-page. The closer the pictures are to title the more impact it has. Google thinks that pictures at the beginning are more important.
  • The higher the quality of pictures the better. Because then more people will notice it and click on it.
  • Link to picture with the according keyword. If there’s dog on the picture then don’t put “click here” for anchor text, better is dog
  • Avoid using javascript for opening, showing or serving up bigger version of pictures.
  • Register your web-page at Google Webmaster Tools and under the Settings find Include my site in Google Image Labeler and make a mark in the box.
  • Tag your pictures with Google Image Labeler.

If you use all of these tactics you should do better than 95% of your competitors.

Good luck with optimizing your pictures!

tsimha - u can use this still... By simply editing the codes of the image src urself :)

No it is not possible to use some filehost and bring traffic to your site.

How can you tell google that the image is uploaded on your site when you are uploading to some file host?

Thanks for the tutorial! I added a recommendation to this thread here :)

If you have 10 images then it is great.

You can name it differently.

Like if it is dogs photos then you can name it like :

big_dog.jpg, white_dog.jpg, small_dog.jpg, german_dog.jpg.

You can try different ways always. People search anything over the net.

LoL Ok, Added. :)

Will be in touch soon.

Btw there is a WordPress plugin wich automaticly does this for you and its called: Seo Friendly Images 2.6

Hope that helps some ;)

PS: I dont think it does the exact same thing but something similare for the SEO

This is pretty basic Eso, and every webmaster should know it so far. If not, read more instead of watching porn or whatever.

Also, why am I the first to like your post? This is like,... very useful for the most of the people here?

And speaking about alt & title, I have added it on PlatinumW a week or two ago. Standard alt for every image in view topic was alt="Image" ... Stupid phpbb3. Now, we have changed it so the alt & title attributes are the same as topic title (only if there was no alt & title tag before). So for example, in a topic called Sexy Babes , every image has as alt & title "Sexy Babes".

Let's see if it will really help :)

Cheers Eso!
