I'm considering purchasing a server for a job similar to this. Except I'll be purchasing it to code my system on (it doesnt currently exist).

As for it being a powerful server. You just need a dual core or more, 2GB or more RAM and a load of storage/bandwidth. Doesn't need to be extremely powerful, just needs a lot of bandwidth mainly.

line + disks

You can reach around 50 MB/s with 2 crappy 7200 rpm drives in raid 0.

If you are more interested, you can read this seedbox review from one guy on ScT:
Provider: i3d
OS: Debian etch with xfce4 and utorrent
Type: Dedicated
Speed: 2gbit (yes 2)
Server specs: R200 chassis (dell), 2.2ghz dual core, 2gb ram, 2x 300gb velociraptor 10K rpm, hw raid controller (dell), 2x1gbit uplink
Top speed achieved so far: 14/76 MB/s down/up (seeding 2 packs, 1 from sct one from another site very similar)

Notes: The limit on this box is the fact I'm only using 2 10K rpm mechancical drives I own, if they were x25-m's I'm sure I could go over 200MB/s on a large pack here at ScT, unfortunatly I'd have to buy them upfront and mail them and they cost $800 cdn plus import fee of probably $100 (which is refundable on return). Or I suppose if I had the dual proc chasis I could have 6 raptors in raid 5/10 and then it would probably again with the right conditions go faster than 1gbit.

The best you can expect in real torrenting situations (outside of the ovh to ovh to ovh scenario) is about 25MB/s upload per 7200rpm drive (with hw raid 0), and about 35MB/s per 10K rpm drive, and not sure on 15K rpm drive

With ssd there is no seek time so it matters not how many connections/upload slots are going.. withh mechanical drives you need to try to keep from uploading to more than 100-150 peers to maintain a high speed

Cost: 770$ for drives from BC, CA to NL, AM, plus 200$ returnable import tax
Then 165 euro /month with 10TB bw

I also paid 6 months upfront and paid no setup fee, I started with web promo 5Tb and haggled

Recommendation: Yes if you can afford gigabit, these gigbaits with the right drives own ovh gigabits

A Con of i3d: They charged me 35 euro to shut off the firewall after i Somehow locked myself out (said it would be 1/4 hour)
Then I started firestarter up again and got locked out again (I guess it remembered setting of on by deafuly) and charged me another 17.50 euro to unlock it again

A pro: Last month I used 11TB bw and it said I used 3TB in my profile, this sort of trend looks like it is continueing

its not torrentFlux but its a seedbox with FTP access

A seedbox is just a server or VPS containing some torrent client.
Which means, a server containing torrentflux as it's client is a seedbox.

So it is torrentflux, if you have a torrentflux server.
