Knownsrv.com - Data loss - always issues!

I really don't like bashing service providers, but when its repeated again & again it really pissed me off.

so here it is...

Again knownsrv.com showed their state, knownsrv.com again put me down.....this time bigger and more to be ashamed of.. all my data is LOST!!

My story:

I am client of Knownsrv.com from last 2 years. I use VPS for programming and developments.
I had Premium USA VPS-4 ( softlayer ) with knownsrv before but as they had problems with softlayer *Kruno* moved me to NL VPS saying its the similar VPS.

But today i got to know the vps i was shifted to isn't in anyway similar to the past vps i was on.

-its unmetered
- its RAID 0 Disk
- its without support

I got to know this fact when my all Data is LOST X-(


My question for Kruno !

Why Kruno or whoever responsible doesn't care to inform me the fact that the VPS i was shifted to is a unmetered one and with RAID 0 disk ?
Why so unprofessional ?

I never knew the fact that the VPS i was on a Unmetered, unsupported and a fucking RAID 0.

I use VPS for programming and webdevelopment not for uploading and shit and now i lost all my data and you offer me a fucking pro-rate refund X-( Shame :facepalm:



With my 2 year eperience with with Knownsrv.com i think they can offer you is -:

Down times ( 2 to 5days )
DDOS
Server hacked
Data loss
Surprises =)
No replies to support ticket many of the times.

I don't want to be rude or anything like that, but YOUR VPS was sending out UDP floods towards other sites and pushed around 80TB of DDoS traffic. It was one of the reason why SoftLayer complained and why you were shifted to NL Nodes. Main reason why I shifted you to unmetered Node was because you pushed loads of TBs on the USA Node. Premium traffic is expensive and I don't think you would want to cover 10eur * 80TB on premium network, hence you were placed on unmetered package.

You do realize you pushed way over your bandwidth allocation on USA Node, and we were kind enough NOT to bill you for bandwidth overusage, right?

Unmetered Nodes come with RAID0 as those packages were advertised only on WJ for uploading purposes. Otherwise we would have to offer 2 times less disk space which wouldn't be a good choice for uploaders.

1) While we had issues with DDoS, we invested piles of money and survived those hard times. As opposite to withdrawing all of money from our accounts and running away like most of other WJ hosts already did, or would do.

2) We have NEVER, ever, got hacked. Only *your* VPS got hacked due to *your* extremely weak password(brute-force). Let me remind you one of our whole /26 got blacklisted because of your WordPress spreading malware. After all we did the extra mile for you and reinstalled your WordPress and removed malware codes. It is not something what our support normally includes.

3) Hard-drives failures do happen. We do NOT advertise RAID10 on unmetered Nodes as it's supposed to be used only by uploaders(as explained somewhere above) who need more disk space. There were 4 VPS in total on that drive. If your data so valuable for you why didn't you have your backups? Exactly as stated in our terms of service, although we NEVER lost any data on packages where we advertise RAID10, our backups are not guaranteed. As a 2-year customer I hoped you already took the chance to read the TOS.

4) Your 33 tickets were replied and you are one of top 10 clients by opened support tickets. Only some examples of what we did for you:
- Optimized your VPS multiple times.
- Removed malware from your WordPress.
- Giving you extra time to make the payment.
- Paid your bandwidth overusage bill, back on USA Node.

I have no idea why you are complaining after everything we did for you. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused but I also hope you can finally realize we did more that any other hosting company would do for you.

"Your use of the service is at your sole risk. KnownSRV is not responsible for files and/or data residing on your account. You agree to take full responsibility for files and data transferred and to maintain all appropriate backup of files and data stored on KnownSRV servers. "

Above quoted line is enough to make your point.

Few facts I want to point out

1) You didn't suspended his VPS when he used up all of his monthly allocated B/W. Are you mad to let a client eat 80TB B/W when he was on limited B/W plan

2) When he got your /26 pool suspended you let him continue with you ? Another bad movement

3) You placed him on Raid0 setup without letting him know about that. That was a bad idea. but since you don't guarantee data backup on your TOS you are on right position. But you should have let him know about that.

4) I think you gave him enough perks to stay with you. So if he still say you are bad, then let him find any other provider that he likes

Raid0 was written on the products page. We didn't even advertise RAID10 on USA Nodes(although we had it) so I didn't even know he thought he would have his data in case of HDD failure in the first place.

We surely did more than enough for him. 33 tickets were logged in our support area, there was even more in my personal gtalk where he was requesting a priority support and asking me to wait for his late payments - I did wait weeks for him, countless times.

I had 50TB Bandwidth limit, you should have suspended me for overuse at the time of exceeding only? ( as stated in your TOS ) and i am capable enough to pay for my extra 30TB bills. ( i had option for upgrading to 100TB BW too, it was not much costly )

I never asked you to cancel my USA VPS and shift me, did i ?
You shifted me because you were having issues with softlayer and wanted to end the deal with them.

Yes, i agree that there were UDP floods from my USA VPS which i don't agree was done by me. I think it was because of server got hacked or something. ( which was not knownsrv mistake, i agree again )

Though, i am not sure if it was 80TB.


But at the time of shifting me to another new fresh VPS you should have informed that it was a :
-unmetered
-Not-managed ( No support )
-RAID 0
-I never asked you for a VPS for uploading or something. Because i use the VPS for Programming and web developement.

I got to know the features of my new VPS after a long time when i opened a support ticket, which the Staff denied to give support:

Obviously, if i didn't asked you should have shifted me to similar premium VPS.

It was not just *you* who lost money and things.
Many of the webmaster lost their website's ranking SERP ranking because of the huge downtimes and even still struggling to get back their old SERP ranking.
( 7-8 days is enough for google to remove website indexed links )

Whatever you did in those DDOS times was for your own sake of business not as a charity to the Webmasters.

If you had really concerned about your clients you would have just supplied everyone with their backups ? ;)

You and me both did checked whole VPS and found no malwares and we just reinstalled the wordpress on new VPS. There were NO malware codes. It was a managed VPS.

I really would not have mind if you have suspended me that time.

I agree Hard-drives failures do happen and its not your fault, Your FAULT IS you didn't informed me about my new VPS features ( RAID 0, un-mananaged, unmetered )
If i was aware that it was a RAID 0 i would have not accepted that Vps or have been more concerned about the daily backups.

Yes, 33 Tickets were opened by me in Last 1 Year for 3 VPS
From which appx 25 Tickets are regarding packet-loss, IP address changed by you time to time, server down, kloxo problem.

I had 3 VPS with you, 2 i cancelled and moved to another host and now One that was left is Lost.

Regarding the extra time for payment it was 12 hours delay in payment, which i myself opened a ticket informing that in advance.


Conclusion:


I do read and understand your TOS

Yes it was 33 tickets for 3 VPS in 1 Year, 75% tickets are regarding down times, packet loss.. and they are replied by your staff only after it gets fixed globally.

On Gtalk as usual i most of time asked when my bloody VPS will get UP. Check your chat logs or i will post it here.

USA VPS was a RAID 10, Managed and with 50TB. It was a VPS-4.

Damn you started bitching me, I never let you wait for payments for weeks ? If yes Prove it HERE !

Payment was late for JUST ONCE FOR 15 HOURS and i opened a ticket to inform about that in advance, because i don't want to get suspended.

SoftLayer wanted you out for DDoS attacks from your IP. The only simmilar high bandwidth package was unmetered. Both USA and unmetered Nodes had no raid10 or backups advertised, anywhere.

Managed means we manage your VPS, not wordpress.

It's clear we did everything we could to please you - and we are still ready to work this out with you. Please get in touch with me to receive 1 month free on a new VPS if you are interested.

Payments were delayed much more in the beginning due to a death in your family according to what you told me over gtalk if I remember correctly. Anyhow, take a free month or move on, no point wasting more time over this - everything has been said.

Fact is USA vps was a RAID 10, no matter if you did advertised or not.

I don't need any of KnownSRV.com servers anymore, even though someone give it for free. Because its just UNRELIABLE SERVICE.
If its up its up ... if its down its DEAD.

Yes, for you time is important, after all its a business.
I just lost my hardwork which i was trying to take in action from last 3 months and have to setup everything again, Its ok we are used to it. We as a knownsrv Clients time is worthless. I can stay more on this thread.

automan, let us know then, what will happen if you didn't know what RAID they use? If they didn't advertised what RAID they use, so they are doing everything written by their TOS, you are on the wrong side. When they requested from you to move/migrate your VPS to another location, your obligation was to declare what type of hardware you need.
 
Pro-rate refund mean nothing than datas lost

OMG! I thought I'm the only one been abandoned. Anyway, thank you for giving me pro-rate refund after all of my datas has been lost. Yes..yes.., I know it is my responsible to backup my datas. Host dont have to do anything .

USA Node had software RAID10 which we didnt advertise as software based RAIDs aren't very reliable. There is no way you could know that though.

I'm sorry for your loss. There were 4 users per drive which means 4 VPS were lost. Unfortunately, although this is the first time it happened there is no way we could have prevented that. Once again, we do NOT have raid10 on unmetered Nodes and we do NOT take backups at this time(we do plan in the near future though). However, premium VPS Nodes run RAID10 which make your data safe against HDD failures. I hope this is clear enough now.

USA VPS was a RAID 10 i did a I/O test and results showed up.

At the time of shifting VPS Kruno asked me if he can allot me new NL vps as I had 2 more NL VPS with Knownsrv and they were advertised as RAID 10 on their website and forum, i assumed the new NL vps he is going to allot me is so called same standard as they used to advertised on their website and forums as NL VPS.
The new actual NL VPS that was alloted to me was RAID 0 that was not advertised on his website nor on forums nor to me.. so i had to assume its RAID 10 NL VPS as advertised.. because, i don't day dream -.-

Same here i have backups, but it will take us like 7 days to configure the whole new server perfectly again for the Script i was working on.
I was planning to do a full VPS backup and mount the OS on a dedicated server to launch. :'(

Then you were free to do I/O test on the new VPS as well. You assumed wrong I'm afraid. USA package comes with a lot of bandwidth and there is no way you could get that amount of bandwidth on premium NL Nodes, hence different IP range from your other 2 VPS.
