India OKs Censoring Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo

An Indian court given the green light for the prosecution of '21 social networking sites.' The list features 10 foreign-based companies, and could affect websites provided by Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and YouTube. The recent development is part of an ongoing argument between the companies and India over whether content should be regulated (read: censored) in the country. The approval was actually made on December 23, 2011, but was only revealed yesterday. India warned these websites it can block them just like China can.

serious :facepalm: to government.... they cant control black money transactions, corruption, but want to block "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"

No, who said, Police do routine checks at DVD, video shops and other areas, not only for movies but adult content too! They catch those guys and sent to court/jail.....

o`rly ? U should come to Lamington road, Mumbai or some place i forgot the name of in Delhi they are known adas of pirated materials & yet u would find them(pirated materials) whenever u go coz police is tooo much busy in counting money collected from them as bribe

u are kidding right? u are indian right? i bet u know whts bribing and corruption level here... just pay some money to that poilice and u wont need to go through that much trouble sheesh

I am from South India, here most of the police are very vigilant and honest, unless your a big-shots son, politician etc

Actually mine is tier-2 city, not metros!
 
Indian govt thinks that these sites are responsible for religious attacks, nothing to do with corruption here that you guys are discussing.

what we are saying is, they can report every damn content against religion/country/etc but blocking the whole social networking site ? well they should work on more serious things like corruptions. ^o)
 
internet is doomed, sell all your web properties and get back to real-life business... maybe start a dvd renting shop? :facepalm: piracy ftw!
