Hi, I would like to buy a site that has been online for some and has good traffic according to the seller.

What tools can I use to identify if the site is good?

- Domain whois
- Ask for access to his analytics account,
- incomming links

I am looking for a site that after some SEO work (mostly onpage) gives me some revenue. What tools would you recommend to

identify if the site is good enough?

torrfriend i would disagree with you.
Anyone can get a good alexa rank in a matter of a week or 2 using user methods.
I have had my site up for just under 3 months and just got 660k alexa but you have sites that are a few days old and 100k and lower, its a joke for the people that actually do try and get it legit

I wouldn't recommend any automated tools to verify the site, simply because they are all ain't accurate. You better of doing the verification manually on your own.

How could you know that the site is good?
1. Get google analytics stats, the majority of traffic should be either organic traffic or direct traffic. Stay away from "Referring Sites" traffic as it's useless and won't generate you revenue.

2. The site should have a decent amount of indexed pages in google. (site: domain.com)

3. Try to analyze the on-site SEO and off-site SEO:
* backlinkwatch.com - Backlinks Checker Tool.
* seocentro.com/tools/seo-tools.html - Analyze on-site SEO.

Good luck with buying the site, don't forget to rep+ me if you find my reply useful. :P
