but im not that someone hehehe
I have setup iis and got the local host working
but I can't figure out how to get my domain pointing at it

im sure ill encounter more problems as I go but for not im kinda stalled on what has got to be something simple

If you own a new server like a VPS or dedicated you need to register the IP of that server

wether on godaddy or namecheap on whereever you did buy your domain

anyway thats the first step and the you need to setup the nameservers on your cpanel when the

IP has propagated

don't think it has anything to do with wordpress

I registered the IP at name cheap
I see no place to put in the name server settings in IIs7

you need to go to dns management and change the a name to the server ip. but the nameservers have to be the ones provide by name cheap i just did this yesterday

like this ?

had it set for hours but done no good

no it dont change in a few minutes lol for changing nameservers it takes around 2 hours or more for changes to take effect and for a new Server IP registration takes 1 - 2 days or more depending on DNS on your area

Did own a hosting business before so I know how this thing goes :)

O
I read somewhere it would just be a few min hehehe
allrighty give it some time I guess

Hi Amartin,

It's not enough to point your nameserver at your server through your registrar. You also need to setup a DNS server on your server so that your computer knows that it needs to pull the traffic referred from your registrar.

Nameserver propagation is a gradual process and can take up to 48 hours, although some of the hops may propagate within minutes. If this is a new domain and your first nameserver update, it could update within a very short timespan.

I always use http://host-tracker.com to monitor the nameserver propagation.

The easiest way to do this is through control panels like Kloxo and CPanel, but there are also a number of tutorials that will help you do this on Windows Server 2008:

Another easy way to do this is through Cloudflare.

O I thought you really had something there with that vid
but his own test failed hehehe
and mine is getting me this (403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.)

also he said you only need one NS
but namcheap is insisting on 2
and he said they should have 2 dif IP's but my server just has one

although that would mean it is at-least connecting to my server
that's something anyway

You can just use 2 nameservers pointing to the same IP. That's what I always do.
Just google "dns server windows 2008" and you'll find a bunch of tutorials on how to set it up.

Well it depends on your registrar. DNS propagation may took a few mins to full 48 hours. I used Name.com and it usually takes about 10 mins [hmmm]

Please don't give advice when you don't know what you're talking about.

DNS propagation has absolutely nothing to do with the registrar.
The registrar updates it immediately.
The problem is that internet providers cache the DNS and only update it intermittently.
The nameserver will update at a different time at each internet provider, depending on when they refresh their DNS cache.

That's why the first namerserver update is always very fast - since the internet providers don't yet have the nameserver in their cache, they update it immediately upon receiving a browser request (unless your registrar decides to park your domain in the meantime. In this case they give their own nameserver, which is cached).

I realized something was going wrong when putting in this
ScreenShot013-1.jpg

if I put in my domain it finds nothing
putting in my IP works but I think that is wrong

I found another vid saying to setup "Active Directory® Domain Services"
then dmcpromp
but then I get to a point where it is complaining that my system dosn't have a static IP
it seems to have 2 network ports hooked up
im not sure what to do now
kinda expect ill scrue something up and have to re install the hole server
