As some of you if you have checked out my site i use justuseme for hosting short sample clips on my webpage to my xxx downloads which i think is quite unique and cool
But i have been thinking about taking over the hosting of the clips myself if possible and depending on what it could cost etc. I have no idea about the legal aspects here is it illegal to cut out lets say a 1-2 minute sample from a full length movie and post as you like?
What kind of hosting would i need to do this? I guess a high bandwidth dedi or maybe powerfull VPS and a quite a bit of harddrive space?
Plan is to host .flv clips and just put a player on each and every post on my site and have a short sample from the related movie there for people to stream in their browser before they decide to download or not.
A while ago i played with lighttpd and the mod_flv_streaming thing combined with mod_sec to avoid hotlinking but this was maybe a year ago but it worked great then. Is this maybe a way to fix it? I was thinking of making the sample ripping and encoding to .flv on a separate machine and not the server because i feel that is a simple and easy way.
Anyone here that knows more about this subject and what kind of server power/bandwidth one would need etc? I understand that its hard to estimate but we can think some scenario up and make the numbers from that i guess just to get a hint?
