even the file manager is running sluggishly ... low download speed is the least of the problems. my users are complaining as well, it's tough

that's the answer actually .. password protect. otherwise setup your own site and put the bookmark into the files. they will end up promoting for you unknowingly ;)

i think the reason why stats are so bad is because downloading is so slow for users.
