To put it this way. I can boot linux, open firefox and check my mail, then shut it down again. Faster than i can just shut down w7. Obviously theres more to it than that and if your fine with using terminal and such then you will enjoy it a lot more than windows.

Either through 'Edit files' in the dashboard or via FTP. Just edit the files in the themes directory not wordpress.
