its not about running vlc as root or not. maybe its because vlc build in centos, or your video has a problem. i dont really understand how things work in centos, because im using ubuntu server. i can run vnc as normal user.

root or not, i got no problem. everything is fine. although usually i run vnc and vlc in normal user.

i never run any problem with vlc. another similar program would be smplayer

you should create vnc by non root account. what would be the difference anyway, running vnc as root or not?

not really understand what you wrote. have you run vnc software in that user? i use vnc4server in ubuntu. to start vnc, use vncserver

you must login ssh as normal user first, not as root. then start your vnc software.
