If they stick to XP after the support ends, any vulnerabilities found after that will not be fixed and it will be christmas for hackers. There are some rumours that hackers have already found vulnerabilities in Windows XP but are keeping it quiet till the support ends.

To say which one is more "effective" it would depend on what you want to gain from it.

Chrome. It has great extensions to help with my workflow - and it looks good.

If you run Windows XP on a computer connected to the internet, it would be stupid not to upgrade after the support ends.

Windows 7 Professional. Simple.
