Hello,

I'd like views on the following ideas that we have (that we may plan on implementing).

First of all, a private chat option in the chatbox. This would enable users to chat privately on the chatbox without having to PM, or request to come on MSN etc. Obviously, sales should not be made in the chatbox.

Secondly, a chatbox that is displayed on most areas of the site. We're thinking about how to implement this.

We will be going through all the rules too and will make them more clear.

The above are only two of the ideas of many that we plan on implementing.

Kindly post your opinions.

Thank you.

private chatbox will be good
but please , make it shown for admins, i mean private CB so, if there's any prob . admins can easily know it and could solve it

mazzo: The whole point of having a private chat, is to have it private. We would advise that users do not conduct business through a private chat though. All sales should be made via the forum itself.

Thanks.

In my opinion, Private chat would lead to problems. Members might create grudges, hatred etc etc. I don't think this is a viable option for WJunction.
And on the second idea, I don't think that'd make us look "professional". Also, the majority of WJ's population don't use the CB, this might be due to their personal interest. Certain members don't like to involve in the Chat box.. This would force them to use it, or make them avoid WJ.. So, both the ideas are not suitable for our forum, atm.

Secondly, a chatbox that is displayed on most areas of the site.
If this is going to be implemented, do add an option to disable it in User CP. It actually seems of no use, no one really want to see whats going on chatbox on each page/thread he visits. Furthermore, multiple requests would be created to get update for cb if many threads are opened.

private chat option in the chatbox
No problem with this. But is this kind of addition really needed? PM's do the same thing. If Ajax PM notification is still working, a small drop down box to send private messages to specified user would be sufficient.

The main chat is dead 90% of the time. If you implement a private chat feature, then we can use the main cb as a ''thought of day'' wall or similar... Not a very good idea, IMO. Furthermore, the sales should be discussed, finalized, etc..., through the website of the service provider and not through the WJ cb, pm system...

Well I too support the first idea. Displaying chatbox everywhere on site will not look good.

The chatbox would only be displayed if the user wishes to view the chatbox.

You could say that for private chat sites too. It's common sense not to do business in a chatbox, that too in private. Only reason why some members may not use the chatbox is due to the fact that they may not know it exists. As stated above, the chatbox would only be displayed if the user wants to view it and participate in it. Similar to the Facebook chat.

They can just disable it if they don't want it Froomple. Loving the ideas Hawk, any ETAs?

Exactly, we always add a disable option for modifications we install in case some members do not wish to view the chatbox on every section or they don't want AJAX notifications etc. We have not yet decided whether to implement it or not hence the thread asking for opinions. :)

its grateful indeed, but i would like to add my opinion is that you should make separate columns in CB for online users.

That would be done if we decided to add it.

I am aware that it would enhance the load on the server, that is why, if we implement it, we will have it collapsed as default and if anyone wishes to use it, they can un-collapse it.

If you check the archive, your "90%" statistic would be blown away. I amended the chatbox archive to have chats displayed for the past 24 hours, so you can see how active it is by viewing the archive. As for the private chat feature, if implemented, you wouldn't want to go on MSN or Skype etc to chat when you and your friend is on WJ private chat, would you? This is only an example. As for sales, again, it's common sense not to deal in private chatboxes etc - as there is no proof X scammed Y and screenshots could always be photoshopped.

Private chat would be a nice addition.

Chat throughout the site is a big NO NO. Just leave the index in a tab and browse the other sections and when you feel to see the chatbox then just view that tab :D

That's exactly how it will be implemented BlaZe, it would be a tab or something similar. The user would need to view the tab etc, to view the shoutbox.

Thanks
