Polland is first EU country that adopted ACTA

After days of protests and hacker attacks, Poland has signed the controversial ACTA copyright protection treaty. Opponents call it an assault on online freedom, since it demands that internet service providers police user activity.

Warsaw’s Ambasador to Tokyo Jadwiga Rodowicz-Czechowska signed the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Japan on Tuesday. The treaty aims to harmonize international copyright protection standards in a number of industries from pharmaceutics to fashion.

The agreement now has to be ratified by the parliament, which is unlikely to oppose it, reports RT’s Aleksey Yaroshevsky.

“Millions of people, literally millions contacted Congress and said ‘we don’t want this, this is not what we stand for,’” he said. “Congress heard them and realized that if they follow the corporations rather then the voters, then they’ll loose their jobs. And that is what changes policy in the end.”

Might I add;

The government said they'd not give into blackmail... [source; torrentfreak]

for those who are confused why they made that statement it was because of Anonymous blackmailing them and not the protesters protesting.

Your sources are pretty bad  - Poland is not first country that adopted ACTA and more precisely this act is not yet valid in Poland. Must pass the ratification process.

ACTA was signed today in Tokio by 21 countries - Japan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. ...

Signature is not made for Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Slovakia and the Netherlands, since these countries are waiting for completion of the procedure of constitutional authority of Ambassador. They will sing this document in next few days.

This does not mean that the document is already in force! In Poland we have now a lot of ongoing manifestations against ACTA in every big city. The two major political parties are not favorable to the ratification of the document.

Yet nothing has happened so don't spread panic children.

I don't know any other EU country that signed this, and got media attention so far. That comment was not source, it was my conclusion.

As for the other things:

After days of protests and hacker attacks, Poland has signed the controversial ACTA copyright protection treaty.

I can't pass news saying Polland didn't signed, when all news claim it signed. Ratification is just a formality in EU. It will be forced ASAP.

Nothing happened, but yet, Polish are protesting on the streets in more than one city.

It DID happened. You need one country, to make domino effect. Same how Megaupload fall, and rest freaked out, and got lost.

So, I see plenty of room for panicking. You don't panic when everything is in force, you panic to prevent it to happen.

Shocked that Canada ,Switzerland and South Korea signed it... I always thought they prefer freedom over anti-piracy. :-\

Btw, has the UK signed it yet?

cvrle77 you wrong again, - 21 countries signed this docu today, but it is not yet implemented it's not applicable in our country and our law, and NO - it will not be forced ASAP !

I can understand why you wrote about Poland - Poland citizens are in first line in fight against ACTA.

It DID happened. You need one country, to make domino effect. Same how Megaupload fall, and rest freaked out, and got lost.

Go here and read this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Counterfeiting_Trade_Agreement#Negotiations

Panic has not helped yet to any man. Panic can only kill you.

I thought they all came over where i live and took every job available X-(

I didn't know that you are racist.
