With regards to this thread Sandvik closed. I'd have replied in the thread but he closed it so made this topic instead.

You can make one very simple change that will help it a lot. On the reputation page you can have it show the username of the member who gave the rep.
IPB has this which works perfectly and you never have any backstabbing as everyone know's who rep'ed everyone. It's all open and visible.

It's only about a 3 minute job. The userid is already stored in the database (as that's how it knows how many people you've rep'ed in a day) so all the data and code is their meaning zero additional server load. You just use the userid to add the name beside the list of reps. Seriously check out IPB and the way it works. You get no abuse or problems as a result.

I don't know about that but it will let people miss use the rep system
for example i give you -rep for no reason or some reason
so now you want to get revenge on me so you give me - rep
Is just example you just know some people out there will do that
i know big sites disabled the usename beside rep system for miss using it.

Easy, but useless. There's no need to know who liked/disliked something you've posted. We all have different opinions about everything, and some might take it seriously.

Don't think about reputation as juice/respect in real life, it's just a forum reputation system. It doesn't mean that someone needs a reason to like/dislike your post.

My experience with it is different. People complain rather than try and get revenge. This would be more so on WJ as people love to complain and it fixes itself. It's near impossible to get revenge on someone as you get the "need to distribute more rep" message here. People also are far more generous with rep and are less likely to give negitive rep as their name is public.

It prevents arguements. I don't see how anyone could see that as a "useless" reason.

Everyone has a different opinion about what you or someone else posts. End of story, if they think your post sucks - they simply dislike it. No need to know the person or anything. By knowing who liked/disliked your post, you'd probably have a beef with that person, which we don't want on WJunction.

I agree.
If someone does give you an unnecessary -rep without reason, then you can just ignore it.

On the other hand, if someone does give you a reason, for the -rep, then you can acknowledge that and work on it.

As Jason said, easy, but useless.
Not only useless, it's leaving you without choice.
Maybe I don't want someone to know that I rep+ him. Just because, I feel that way. So, I have a choice. If I want to let the person know that I rep'd him, I can easily type that down in box, for that need.
It's not about who got the rep, it's about the one who's giving the rep.

It's not about who got the rep, it's about the one who's giving the rep.

It is possible that only the user can see the username no one else in user CP

I think if anything this would start more arguments than prevent them. I think a certain level of anonymity is good for a system like this. If there's obvious abuse, we have access to all the data to fix that problem.

Currently the reputation system is running quite well and the use is increasing. I think changing this system could have two outcomes: 1. People targeting people who left negative that they feel was "uncalled for" and 2. People too scared to leave negative to begin with.

Well looking at your profile, you haven't exactly been attacked. It's from all different users lol. Why are you attacked so much on here anyway?

Agree with e
I know for a fact people would want to get revenge
This will also force people to make multiple accounts

Qs congrats on 5 points

You should just ignore those reps buddy.
Nobody's gonna judge you based on these reps.
They are there, just so that you can improve yourself.
If you see a mindless rep, without reason, just ignore it.
