Hello,

The problem is not Windows XP. XP is only a problem if you try to join a host RDP with NLA (network level authentication) enabled by default on Server 2012/r2 . Then you would have got the message "The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication"
You can enable the NLA on Windows XP without problem (sp3 + regedit edit) Enable Network Level Authentication (NLA) in Windows XP - Spiceworks

Your problem is probably blocking port 3389 in your router or ISP. I already solved a similar problem with one of my customer.

- Trying to manually open port 3389 in your router .
- Connect to RDP with VPN if your isp blocks port 3389.

Best Regards,
