From a psychological viewpoint, us appearing offline and punishing people for not following the rules implements the rule in the "criminal's" mind much better than them not doing it because we are online.

But a presence of a Moderator does deter a "criminal" because they know someone
is watching, if they can't see anyone online they think they are free to do what they wish and sometimes will get away with it because a moderator might actually be idle for like 5 minutes or w.e and not see what happens but if they are online and howing in the whos online it sends a message of "dont fuck around a mod is online"

But the benefit of the presence of moderators will mostly impact the ChatBox
and it will help members know who to contact because they will be able to see
who is online at the time they need the help and not spam all the mods with
the same message asking for help.

Yea, but that only means they'll do it when the mod's not watching. What's better, not to do something out fear or knowledge?

I see what you mean, but if all moderators were to show as online WJ is covered 24/7

Also members who need help/newb they need to see some sort of moderator presence
so that they feel assured if they need help someone is there to help.

Example given by Mr Happy - a civilian stops a police officer to ask for directions.

I'm not against the whole idea of being invisible,
it's just that i see nearly every moderator using it and not taking it off.

It's nice to see a moderator online it makes people feel if something goes wrong
someone is there to help who is capable of dealing with an issue.

Umm, only 5 of us use it (Me, RT, Sp, Sand, Rob). I've taken it off at your request, btw and since then I haven't received a single PM regarding any issues :/. I guess it's because I'm a gypsy.

wdemon also uses it,
i can't comment on Hawk or sniffdog if they use it as i am unsure.

But it just looks good if there is a moderator online,
it gives people the feeling that there is someone online
that they could talk to if need be.

And thank you for going online <3

Also - regarding not receiving a single PM this kinda voids some arguments
that Staff get harassed 24/7 via PM, ofc i know that they do sometimes but it's
not overwhelming.

Why would anyone appear offline on a message board in the first place? It's not like it changes something. You're here either to post or lurk. If you appear offline when you're not - it only means two things: you're running away from something or you think it's cool. Either way, it's the most useless feature.

Making this look like it actually serves a purpose, is just ...

I think we shouldn't start a poll. We've heard arguments for and against and I think no one has changed their mind so there is really no point in discussing it further imo. I use the feature sometimes because I want a break and just want to look at the forum without getting pm'd or called in cb.

Although it is nice to see a staff member online imo, I think its okay to appear offline as well. There's rarely a true emergency.

Well I do not care either way as you should not pm a mod unless asked or your friends etc in my opinion...that said I think it is a bit abused by some staff

Well I agree but most use it all the time

If Mod's are using the invisible status we'll also use it.. we members also need to take a break frm nooby Mod's and annoying creatures(CP)..! am i right CP?

A Member Needs any Help He will Create Thread

And then you get a thread full of comments like:

"Noob Question"
"Speak English"
"You stupid"

ofc depending on the question,
we need to bear in mind that not everyone is on the same
mental ability level as others, some questions are better to ask
a mod directly.

If mods are fed up of noob questions, then they should resign?

I mean, its a webmaster forum, but that doesnt mean everyone will have a vast knowledge. Members start from somewhere and when they start they are bound to have loads of noobish questions. Mods are here to help them out. Create a thread and other members are sure to bash them, leading to unwanted drama ofcourse.

Else, change the tagline to "Established Webmaster Hangout Only".

So lets say i'm a newb here,
i'm expected to PM every Mod/Super Mod/Admin
with a question i have?

Would it not be better if i saw you online and just sent 1 PM
instead of bothering every mod with this?

You are not suppose to PM every mod/super mod/admin.

Now that's spam.

Then how do i know who i am supposed to PM?
Example:
yourself & wdemon are online right now but because i can't
see you guys online I'd PM Hawk or Mr-R-T both who are not
online and might not be online for the next 12 hours.

Why not just PM a mod who is online?

(This is if you meant instead of PMing every mod just PM 1)
