I am planning to change the permalink structure for a site.

Its about 1700 posts, it will be really helpful if somebody can help me with any tips/guides to redirect the old links to the new structure.

i have a doubt here - if i change the permalink structure, will the URLs of old posts too change?

hows the structure now and how do you plan to make it look

example:
from mydomain.com/linktostory.html
to mydomain.com/download/linktostory.html

you would use something like
RedirectMatch 301 (.*) download/$1

the current structure is - domain.com/2011/07/10/post-name/ and i will be changing it to domain.com/post-name.html

Don't touch the htaccess or you might fuck up everything if you make a mistake. I did that already, all I had to do is tick the option of 301 redirect on my platinum SEO plugin and all went well.

+rep r-t

if you have plugin that would be easier then messing with htaccess specially if you decide to change again in future

thanks guys, i have this plugin on my site, but just wasnt sure if it works for old posts too (not my site)...

and r0ck - wont be changing the structure again as this one is better for seo... just helping out a friend :)

thanks again
