simple question
if the old server is overloaded, how the file get transferred within seconds? the speed of the old server should be slow which mean the file should move very slowly :)

Hello,

It's a very smart question. We have a local network between our servers besides the public network the server has.
Each server is connected to 3 Gbps public network (the network that your viewer use) but 10 Gbps local network (the speed between our servers). It means the local files transfer process is more likely to be moving a file from a folder into another one within the same PC, and not into another PC.

When the hard drives are at their limit, even the best 100 Gbit won't get you anywhere.
Also, your server with the database is at Obehosting, which means if it's gone, everything else won't work for you.

We don’t overload the I/O speed in any case. We prevent the I/O load to avoid such cases.

Ah, stop telling me such nonsense.
If 100 people suddenly want to watch a video, the server with the disks will be at the limit - no matter if you want it or not.

You can't foresee such a scenario and if you notice something like that it's already too late and everything loads with a few KB/s

We prevent the overload by special OS configuration.
When the I/O reaches a high rate, the system transfer the hottest video into another server.

Does it make sense to you now? :)

That's just bullshit again, if it's done by the OS you'd still have to update it in the database + duplicate the files so the users watching it don't see the black screen.
Quite apart from the fact that if the IO load is already high, it still transfers it slowly

Okay, you’re right. We have been working over 4 years wrong, and it worked well but by a coincidence.

Thank you.

Nope, only it seems that you advertise here with the biggest advantages - but you don't seem to have even the slightest idea how your system works.
Apart from that, yes you have an internal 10 Gbit card... OVH only activates you 3 Gbit

cheers

Hello sir,

I am sad to hear that you’re not aware of OVH “advantage”. Because as you ser here: https://www.ovh.com/world/dedicated-servers/hg/1808bhg01.xml

The private network is 10 Gbps

Cheers

I can say with a rather high probability that you don't only use these servers... and there vRack is not always available with 10 Gbit - also Canada - Poland...
And oh, the hard disks are still overloaded if you want to copy something but there are 100 users who want to watch what

Hello,

All of the servers we have are connected to 10 Gbps, it’s the first thing we look for when we search for a new server to add to our collection. However, as I said we prevent the I/O load using specific OS configuration; the system moves the hottest file very quickly into another server before I/O speed gets overloaded.

Thank you.

i am not expert on this but i know ovh offer 10 gbps for their local network
how did you assume it's 3 gbps? you meant the public network i guess
the local network on big servers is always 10 gbps and you can go max on them
