How do URL shorteners make money?

Hello, i really wonder how do sites like, linkshrink, sh.st, ouo.io makes money. What is the tip, which advertisers do they use, and how do they get good conversions to pay their publishers.

Well when people visit the links they have to view an ad for 5 seconds of whatever. The advertisers pay them. I'm not sure how though, either CPM(Paid for each view) or if they get paid per every sale i'm not sure.

Yes; They are using CPM & CPA ad networks , Such as : interstitial Ads , Popunder Ads, Banner Ads.
(Interstitial ads are full-page ads that appears before the destined webpage. )
 
Short url sites earn a revenue from the advertising hits that the site generates. Usually when a user clicks on a short url, there is a timed delay with an advert showing. On the short url script that we developed there is also the functionality for members to upgrade their accounts to a paid premium account.

When these shortner are get clicked, visitor see some ads. And this is making money.
 
Some link shorteners sell the data they collect to websites for competitive intelligence.
For example data surrounding trends and traffic volumes.
Some also create pages around the websites that use the link shortener and rank for brand related keywords, then place ads on those pages.
