Shaving mode is on for group A33.

And Jeff why do you always say "1TB cost 80$". Can you please tell me which server provide 1TB for 80$?

Forexamples :

https://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server#storage === > 12TB = 80€ (86$)
https://www.ovh.ie/dedicated_servers/storage/ ===> 12 TB = 80€ (86$)

Does Jeff lie or am I wrong guys?

K2S dont use servers from France. Also they probably dont use storage servers.

However still - 80$ for 1 TB its impossible.

These prices are for standard HDD. Its very possible that Keep2Share has to stick with using SSD or PCIe SSD for faster I/O. You get a hot file that everyone wants, you need to have fast disk I/O to be able to send that file out at speed, one of my regular HDDs in my local Ubuntu server I just tested reads at only 200 MBps....

Also I'm sure they probably have to pay for insane amounts of bandwidth. I'd be doubtful that a file host of their size can operate servers at gigabit speeds, my guess would be that they'd likely need to be at 10Gbps at a minimum. I mean, hell at any given moment I'm probably consuming a Gigabit worth of bandwidth for my uploads alone (yes I auto-upload thousands of files a day to them), although my gigabit worth of uploads are probably balanced out across a dozen or so of their servers.

And if they're using a good file system that scales well the systems could require a lot of RAM. For example, ZFS requires 4 GB of RAM for every 1 TB of data if your using de-duplication.

So there are a lot of various things that can bring costs up...
