Is it posiible to index a website by sending its URL via Gmail? I once did that with my test website which had no links, no Analytics, no Webmaster Tools and one day I realised it's in the index of Google. Is it normal?

Gmail is nothing more than an email provider which allows you to both send and receive email from other people. It does not have anything to do with Google search engine index. If you want to get your site indexed, all you have to do is to submit to Google.

never heard of that functionality. google was however in the news for scanning thru emails and reporting criminal activity ...

Try to loggin out from gmail and llok if your link is there maybe you are logged in and google allways gives you the most used websites first.

According to me there is having a problem in checking the website Indexing report. Gmail does not help anyway to index website to Google. you may only Do-this thing manually by submitting the XML-Sitemap to the Google by webmaster.

Submitting a XML sitemap of your website in Google webmaster account helps to index your website pages faster in search engines.

it is better for you that submit xml sitemap to SE via web master tool and ping your site by many free ping tool. Gmail is not a way to index your site. It is just send your site 1 user to another user. That's all.

I wonder if you guys know about the FETCH option in the google webmasters panel? you submit your URL and it will get indexed in like 10 seconds (in my case). Every time I add a new page to any of my sites I immediately go to the webmasters panel and use the FETCH option to index my new page instantly. No point of having to ping the page or waiting for the sitemap to index it.

I've seen many times when google knows about web site in development when no link is available. the only thing is that you are using google chrome - it would already know. if you are sending e-mail using chrome - it will know, if someone you are sending your email to will open gmail in chome... Also, I do not think google would use gmail to index, this could be a great problem...
