Avast free. Does everything plus has the sandbox feature which is pretty neat for executing stuff you have downloaded from warez sites etc.
I tried the MS essentials on the laptop I'm currently using but it kept hogging the CPU and RAM so have stuck with Avast.

It really doesn't matter what AV you use if you don't practice safe browsing/downloading. Consumer AV products fail because they are all signature based.. meaning it has to be widely known before they will detect. If I were to homebrew and only infect targeted users or few thousand.. Its not going to matter.

I'm very partial to Nod32 and PrevX (for servers and the like if you don't want to shell out).

And of course, adblockplus is a must on every browser.

best antivirus is dit defender but it will not follow your command it will remove everything ... like all virus even if you add it to exception list.. it also deleted my dell laptop drivers .. lol .. / i removed it because it does not follow my settings ..
