I liked it. There are people who are shy to express themselves,
natural shyness or not master the subject and bullshitting
Prefer to express private ...
It will give more freedom to these people...

Thats a good improvement and new innovation in Vb as having a Private CB on WJ. Can't wait for it.:)

Change is always better. :dan:

Edit:

@mRAza:- I agree with you. More load on server will be bad for everyone.

About the private cb feature.

It's obvious some users will try and do deals with it, say the ones who don't have a legit licence for webhosting/ windows keys etc

IF it does go ahead anyone found to be scammed by it get's nothing back, i'm not going to help a user who ignored the rules and never went the right away about doing business.

It seems that having the chatbox throughout the forum may reduce threads/posts statistics. We may run it as a trial though, and it would be similar to Facebook chat, where you can see who's online and the chat etc after you click on the chatbox button that we implement. As for private chat - the only problem that we're discussing in the staff section is monitoring it, as we don't want private chat to be used for sales etc.

Thanks

I dont think the cb private chat should be implemented as it will kill the actual cb if u really want to implement it then replace it with the PM remove PM implement that :D

that cant be done
pm stays in inbox as long as there
but chat gets deleted pruned every now and than

I think a global shoutbox would be a more active shoutbox. Global shoutboxes do not necessarily take away from post counts. Posts are necessary, especially when you have the content wJunction has. Even though I rarely shout, I find it annoying to have two tabs open to read content and to watch replies to my shouts.

A private option would be a great addition, as well.

I've ran sites with both index only and global shoutboxes. I've seen that an active global shoutbox = a super active forum.

Most shoutboxes are updated every 5-10 seconds. In wJunction's case, 10 seconds. I don't think it's going to create a huge load problem if it does, because likely, there are only 5-7 queries each shoutbox request.

The first idea of having a private chat option in the chatbox would be good, and handy.
I think these chats should still be made possible for admins / mods to view if need be, just incase of any hate talk or whatever else. Either that, or simply have the ability to block the certain person?

Secondly, the idea of having the chatbox in most areas of the site.... Errmmm.... It's an interesting idea. However, I think people that have smaller screens/resolutions, might suffer over this. There might be an option to turn it off, fair enough... but I don't think it's the right way to do it.
Perhaps, another option would be to add a 'pop out' button. So that the chatbox gets it's own window, and can be in the background of the user.

Or actually... how about this...

Extend this bar to the width of the users browser, and have it at the bottom of the users window. The + button, when pressed, can then open up the chatbox. ??

Can't see any reason for either really. People can easily open a second window for browsing, while keeping a tab with the chatbox open. Most people can't read two things at the same time anyway, no matter how smart they are.

Also while a private pm in the chatbox would be a slight bit more convenient for those who frequent it, I see no real difference in the forum pm system - does what you need. I think it'd be better to put the effort into developing other areas of the site (no suggestions though).

Lastly, if the chat on every page thing goes through, as pointed out an option to remove it would be pretty useful

In my opinion, Private chat would lead to problems. Members might create grudges, hatred etc etc. I don't think this is a viable option for WJunction.
And on the second idea, I don't think that'd make us look "professional". Also, the majority of WJ's population don't use the CB, this might be due to their personal interest. Certain members don't like to involve in the Chat box.. This would force them to use it, or make them avoid WJ.. So, both the ideas are not suitable for our forum, atm.

agree total ;)

only option if u desperate want to add chat on every page is to add (also) an extra option in user settings for disable it by user request
