If I wanted to buy my own dedicated server without going through a 3rd party... How do I go about it?? And is it cheaper??

Are there any step by step guides on here that I might of missed?

I guess the same procedure applies if you're wanting to buy a low end, or high end machine.

Thanks

"Usually" data centers resell their machines through resellers, who are offered a certain "x%" discount to make profit and get the data center more volume of consumers. Now, many resellers take that x% discount and offer some of it to the customer to lure them in. So you are looking at a (x%-y%) discount. This is what a lot of resellers will do.

Then comes the people who own hardware at a data center. I usually like those guys because they are more personable while having hands on access to the machines. I would highly suggest you look into those.

Which location are you looking at? What kind of specs? What is your budget? Are you looking to lease it monthly or buy the hardware? If lease, 3rd party would be cheaper IMO.

Just wanted to know how it's actually done. I wondered if buying a server directly from the supplier without using a third party would be cheaper? I guess it all depends on the deal that the third party has with the supplier if they are buying multiple at a time. Obviously getting discounts etc.

Not always cheaper. It depends. Some direct providers are not reseller friendly and selling at cheapest pricing already. Like if the reseller is reselling from OVH, Online.net or hetzner.com, Definitely they will charge you higher than the direct providers.

How you can win when buy from resellers? Example, If you buy from Eqservers, Redswitch or some other Leaseweb Reseller, You can expect way better pricing instead of buying directly and also can expect better supports if i am not wrong.

They are established Resellers and registered entity so you will not be disappointed. (Example).

Hope this helps.

If you want dedis from actual colos, you won't find much. They mostly sell racks. Some have dedis but most of them would be unmanaged. It's good to go with 2nd / 3rd party since they provide various location options and can provide good support too.

If you want good quality, you will look far away from OVH and hetzner lol. They dont sell quality, they sell quantity. Don't believe me? Go ask the image hosts why their servers were down for so long a few days ago while OVH was jerking them off.

If you want the cheapest, always keep in mind, your product will be shit quality as well.

For OP - Simply, You get what you pay for. Some are charging high for nothing though. So always buy after some researching. :)
