This article assumes you know what RapidShare is and that you've purchased and own a RapidShare Premium account. Click here to find out what RapidShare is. You can also purchase a RapidShare Premium account here.
Congratulations on purchasing a RapidShare Premium account. We'll be covering a couple of topics in this article, namely RapidShare phishing and the RapidShare Security Lock. We will also learn how to enable Direct Downloads.
» RapidShare phishing
You've most probably come across the word "phishing" before. The word is pronounced "fishing".
Individuals, referred to as phishers, setup spoof webpages that resemble those of RapidShare in an attempt to dupe you (novice users) into entering your RapidShare username and password. This results in victims losing their accounts due to the phishers changing the passwords.
» RapidShare Security Lock
In order to counter this once growing trend, RapidShare introduced the Security Lock. This feature, which can be enabled once logged into your RapidShare Premium account in the Premium Zone, provides an added layer of security by sending you an email containing an unlock code. Enabling the Security Lock prevents deletion of any files you've uploaded and also prevents the account password and email address from being modified, thus deterring the phisher.
When the need to disable your Security Lock arises, simply copy the "Release-Code" sent to you via email and paste it in the textbox provided.
Just make sure the password of your RapidShare Premium account is not the same as that of your email account. A general rule of the thumb is, instead of using the same password for your accounts on various websites (Facebook, Gmail, Amazon), to instead, slightly vary/alter your passwords.
» Direct Downloads
Make your way to the Settings page in the Premium Zone. Scroll down to the "Configuration" sub-heading. Here, tick the box titled "Direct downloads, requested files are saved without redirection via RapidShare". Having done that, scroll down and click the button titled "Save".

Following this, don't forget to enable your account's Security Lock.
What this does is, rather than display a webpage with the "Download" button for each file you download from RapidShare, it instead skips this step altogether and directly prompts you the save the requested file on your computer. This is especially important when you get around to using software to manage your downloads, known conveniently as Download Managers, which is something we will be covering soon, here at WJunction.
That's all, folks.
